What: Felicity Urquhart @ Brass Monkey

When:

Felicity Urquhart @ Brass Monkey Two voices. One heart. Zero pretence. Raw, real, and ridiculously good, the music born of this unique pairing has been described as “folksy country” but in truth, it cannot be contained within a simple genre description. The highly recognisable guitar work of Josh Cunningham has been a defining element to the sound of iconic Australian band The Waifs for over three decades, whilst over the same time span, Felicity Urquhart developed a voice and style that must be experienced to be believed as she summited the pinnacle of Australian country music. Not content to stay in their ‘folk rock royalty’ or ‘queen of country’ lanes, the couple simply make the music of their hearts, creating the category defying sound that inspires joy and stirs the soul. Already ARIA-nominated (The Song Club) and three times Golden Guitar winners (Birdsong), these legends aren’t resting on their laurels - they’re writing the next chapter. Catch fresh tracks from their upcoming album, plus the songs you already love as you join them on a musical journey that’s fiery and full of heart, where past and present harmonise, and every note tells a story. Don’t miss it.

Contemporary Country

Felicity Urquhart has been a vibrant thread in the Australian Country Music tapestry now for over three decades. Since 1992 she has released 11 studio albums including the two most recent with music and life partner, Josh Cunningham; and two as part of supergroup ‘Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart.’ Felicity has been honoured with numerous awards including 16 CMAA Golden Guitar Awards, 3 ARIA nominations, and a Centenary Medal in 2001 “For service to Australian society through country music” from Prime Minister John Howard. Throughout her career Felicity has performed extensively across Australia, including countless appearances at large-scale Country and Folk music festivals, and a performance for a US President and the Pope. Felicity has shared the bill with acts as diverse as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Sheryl Crow, Don Williams, Rodney Crowell, Don McLean; and most recently toured with Aussie legends The Whitlams Black Stump Band. Felicity has also performed as a long-time member of Western Swing group, The Spin Drifters.

Along with her music success, Felicity has captivated audiences with her personality and presenting skills on television as seen on Sydney Weekender and ABC’s Back Roads. She received international recognition for her work as the beloved host of ABC Radio’s ‘Saturday Night Country’ (2010-2020), earning the prestigious ‘International Country Broadcaster’ award from the Country Music Association (CMA) in Nashville, TN.

In 2020 Felicity was invited to join the ‘Song Club’ – a creative collective that tasked members with writing one song per week to a prompt. Josh Cunningham (Australian multi-ARIA winner, acclaimed guitarist and singer songwriter from ‘The Waifs’) was a fellow member of the club, and after striking up a connection the two began writing together. One year later, the duo released their stunningly beautiful debut album, The Song Club, which entered the ARIA Country Album Charts at #1 and was nominated for 4 Golden Guitars and an ARIA.

The duo released their highly anticipated second album, Birdsong, in 2023 earning the title, “Australia’s first couple of folk-country,” (Phil Stafford, The Australian). Their coinciding national Birdsong Tour delighted fans across all eight Australian states and territories, with 16 sold-out shows and numerous festival appearances.

In 2024 the duo swept the 52nd CMAA Golden Guitar Awards with Birdsong in both nominations and top category wins, taking home Traditional Country Album of the Year, plus Song of the Year and Single of the Year for album track, “Size Up.”

Felicity and Josh are currently writing together in preparation for their third studio album.
