Barak Mori @ SFJAZZ Center With her dusky, lyrical style and affinity for reinterpreting classic jazz, blues, and folk standards, vocalist Madeleine Peyroux is a highly acclaimed, internationally recognized artist. Emerging in her teens as a street-busking performer in Paris’ Latin Quarter in the 1980s, Peyroux drew favorable comparisons to legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday, and eventually caught the attention of the record industry. Her debut album, 1996’s Dreamland , featured a bevy of noted jazz artists and drew accolades for her distinctive take on blues and jazz standards.

Barak Mori is a Tel Aviv–born, New York–based jazz bassist, composer, and educator. Active since the early 1990s, he has been a trusted collaborator for leading voices such as Avishai Cohen, Anat Cohen, Eli Degibri, Maya Dunietz, Madeleine Peyroux, Peter Cincotti and many others. Known for his warm, singing tone and deep sense of time, he moves easily between modern jazz, straight-ahead swing and more exploratory music. Alongside his sideman work, he leads his own projects and teaches the next generation of players.
