Who: Sammie Lee
Soft Pop
Sammie Lee’s love and devotion to music started with playing flute in second grade then moved into singing. She recorded songs on her old MacBook using GarageBand, sang at open mics in high school and then joined an a cappella group in college. She sang every single day. In 2018, though, her doctor found a growing nodule in her thyroid. She was told that the surgery might make her unable to sing. She recorded her last few songs just in case she lost her voice for good. After her surgery, she couldn’t sing for about 2 months and began her uphill battle to rebuild her voice from scratch. That process has taken 6 years with a lot of fluctuation. In 2020, she started learning ukulele so that even when her voice falters, she can still make beautiful music and have fun. She has moments when her voice does what it wants, but she’s so glad she was able to get her voice back and share it with the world. She currently coaches her collegiate a cappella group, writes songs, and performs around the NOVA area.
