Unbounded Sounds is a newly launched concert series, spearheaded by renowned Vienna based kanun player, improviser and composer Sofia Labropoulou. The first edition, set to take place in 2025 at Vienna’s Sargfabrik Kulturhaus, will explore cross-cultural and cross-genre musical fusions. This innovative project features five duet performances, where Labropoulou performs with a distinguished international collaborator in the first set. In the second set, a local Viennese artist will join, transforming the duet into a trio and creating a dynamic platform for deeper musical exploration.
The series brings together voices from the global jazz, experimental, contemporary and improvisational music scenes, fostering creative dialogues and blending diverse musical traditions with contemporary and improvised elements. Each concert aims to push the boundaries of artistic expression and encourage cultural exchange between international and local musicians.

Who: Sofia Labropoulou
Free Improvisation
Sofia Labropoulou is a kanun player and composer who merges the worlds of Greek and Mediterranean folk, classical Ottoman, western Medieval, experimental and contemporary music. As a soloist, she frequently collaborates with musicians and composers from all over the world, she composes music and presents kanun and Greek folk music master classes worldwide.
She currently lives in Vienna, Austria, and in December 2020 she released her first solo effort “Sisyphus” (Odradek Records).
