RADIO SUPERFLY presents FUNKY TOWN at the Wiener Neustadt City Theatre!
Wiener Neustadt will once again become the metropolis of funk for one night! Everyone in the Theatre Hall will feel the rhythm and the energy, and dancing is expressly permitted when the Graz funk-pop band Candlelight Ficus and UK Brit-Funk, Helena May with the ‘HORNS DES HOT PANTS ROAD CLUB’ take to the theatre stage and let their beats ring out.
The influences of the band Candlelight Ficus, especially on their new album Music, are wide-ranging: In addition to classics like James Brown and Marvin Gaye, you can also hear nods to contemporary acts such as the Lehmann’s Brothers, Vulfpeck, and Cory Wong. Their live concerts fuse interactive joie de vivre with the high standards of a studio production, finding the sweet spot between catchy pop music and jam band improvisation.
With one foot in London and the other in Vienna, British-born Helena May captivates audiences with her powerful vocals, infectious grooves and vibrant stage presence. With an innate passion for soul, funk, and disco, pop beats meet electronic funk, and ear-splitting choruses meet distinctive vocals. Together with the Horns of the Hot Pants Road Club, she will get Wiener Neustadt dancing.
Gracing major stages in the UK and tasting success across Europe, British Funky-Soulstress, Helena May captivates audiences with her high-powered vocals, grooving bass-lines and whipping brass section.
May’s music-odyssey commenced in the early 2000s, nurturing her love of The Brand New Heavies and Joss Stone. At the age of twelve, May encountered Jamiroquai’s ‘A Funk Odyssey’ and Incognito’s ‘100° and Rising’, igniting her passion of Brit-Funk and Acid-Jazz.
With one foot in London and the other in Vienna - May unveiled her debut album, ‘Funkalicious’ in 2021 - a collaborative effort with nineteen Austrian and British music-makers. Embracing a continued, collaborative approach with her upcoming second album ‘Puzzle Pieces’, sees May gaining rave reviews internationally, securing multiple ’Track of the Week’ listings with Jazz FM (UK), ‘A List’ rotation with Superfly Radio (AT), plus live performances and interviews on BBC Radio London.
