Who: Ty Wilson Music

Alt-country

Ty Wilson is an alt-country troubadour who seamlessly blends traditional and modern elements, with a soulful voice and an authentic storytelling style to create powerful and resonant music. The Peterborough, Ontario native’s (northeast of Toronto) self-coined “Red Dirt North” style mixes a fusion of modern country with southern rock flavor and is influenced by the likes of Chris Stapleton, Steve Earle and Eric Church.

Wilson’s lead-off single from his completely crowd-funded debut LP, Northern Heart, Southern Soul, is “Chasin’ Headlights”. An ode to his fiancé, this mid-tempo Texas country anthem features chugging electric guitars and a chorus sure to have you cruising down the highway with your windows down. Wilson remarks, “As artists, we spend a lot of time on the road and this song is a bit of a love letter to my fiancé. She does so much for me, so that I’m able to keep pursuing this crazy dream and making that drive back to her at the end of a run is often what keeps me going.”

To make Northern Heart, Southern Soul, Wilson enlisted the help of Nashville based producer/drummer, Jay Tooke (The Steel Woods, Randy Houser, Wyatt Flores), to consult and perform on the album, with Texas country heavyweights Edgewater Music Group producing and engineering the eight- song LP. “My music has been very well received south of the border. I have a love for southern influenced music, so when the opportunity to record with this team in Texas happened, I had to take it,” states Wilson.

Wilson was named a winner in both Nashville’s 2024 Unsigned Only competition (“The Last Sip”) and the Texas Country Music Association’s 2024 songwriting contest (“The Last Sip”), 2024 “Male Vocalist of the Year” in the Texas Sounds International CMA’s, was a semi-finalist in the 2023 and 2024 International songwriting competition (“Another Day, Another Pour,” “The Last Sip”) and has had three #1 Canadian Indie Country Countdown singles, “The Last Sip” (2023) “Pair of Hearts” (2023) “Another Day, Another Pour” (2022).

He grew up in small-town Ontario (Keene) with deep musical roots in the Peterborough area. Wilson’s great grandmother (Vera Keating) holds a star on the Peterborough Walk of Fame for her accomplishments in fiddling. His grandmother (Jaqueline Coburn) had her own TV show on local cable and opened for legendary artists such as Johnny Cash and Marty Stuart. Keeping with this tradition, Wilson has always had an affinity for music. He picked up a guitar for the first time at the age of 10 and started to write songs at 12-years-old.
