Classical-pianist-turned-indie-producer Arsoniste (Rachel Sunter; r-sun-east) makes laptop songs at home with her cats. Drum loops, spacey keys and radioheady vocals deliver the ruminations of a tomboy model music nerd with trauma in the bank.
Arsoniste coproduced her fan-funded debut LP Queen of Swords (2025) between Halifax NS and Sheffield UK, before finishing it at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire).
“Queen of Swords is a diary entry of fresh wounds, spiritual questions and post-pandemic dissociation," says Arsoniste. “The album title comes from a tarot card that represents fierce female independence, saying No, severing relationships, and unmasking liars - especially men. All heavy themes on the record."
Originally a piano-singer playing upscale lounges for a living, Arsoniste’s moody indie-electronica sound found listeners abroad when their “Lithium” Nirvana cover gained 400K streams on Amazon Music UK & US, and her “Weird Fishes” Radiohead cover passed 170K views Youtube.
