“UNLOCKING THE DOORS” - an Australian Showcase which is rapidly building a following throughout Sydney and the east coast of NSW is coming back to Django @ Camelot!! A must see outfit totally dedicated to bringing to you the true sound of Jim Morrison and the powerhouse performances of The Doors.

“UNLOCKING THE DOORS” has wasted no time in establishing a name as a showcase not to be missed.

The band consists of four Wollongong based musicians who have set out to capture the magic of Jim Morrison and band that take audiences back in time to the unique rock act that was The Doors!

Unlocking The Doors front man, Richie, sets out to capture Morrison’s magic whilst leaving some of the cliché surrounding Jim behind.

Richie is backed by Sandy on Organ and Keyboard Bass. Sandy has set out to reproduce the unmistakable sound of The Doors organist, Ray Manzarek. Often considered the genius behind The Doors sound, Manzarek’s influence on rock music is as relevant today as it was back in the late 60’s. Sandy has dedicated herself to mastering Ray’s almost split personality style of playing. Hypnotic bass fills with one hand and stabbing syncopation with the other, through to some of Ray’s signature melodic lines such as the opening of “Light My Fire”.

On guitar we have Mick, fingerpicking his Gibson SG standard to emulate The Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger’s wonderful Legato style. From the beautifully atmospheric tremolo of “Riders on the Storm” to the grinding attack of “5 to 1”, Mick plays homage to Robbie’s style that is impossible to pigeon hole.

Finally on drums we have Lee, completing the line-up for Unlocking The Doors. John Densmore’s unique fusion of Jazz, Rock and Latin beats still stands unsurpassed today for the eclectic signature it placed on The Doors sound. Lee has dedicated himself to unlocking Densmore’s style and providing the back beat that is hard to master.

Who: Unlocking the Doors

Acid Rock

Wollongong band ‘Unlocking The Doors’ are looking to come to a venue near you – reprising the energy, mayhem and psychedelia of the late 60s, and showing audiences just how the original L.A. quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their legion of fans.

“We like to show people how brilliant The Doors were… and how intoxicating Jim Morrison was on stage.” - Rich aka ‘Jim’. Out front, leather-clad Rich sets out to capture the magic of Morrison while leaving most of the clichés behind. A long-time devotee of The Doors, he delivers a heartfelt performance, channelling the mystical command once held by the man at the iconic heart of the band.

The Doors were renowned for performing without a bass player, and Sandy on organ and keyboard bass holds the key to reproducing the authentic live sound of Unlocking the Doors. Sandy has dedicated herself to mastering Ray Manzarek’s ability to split his brain between two keyboards, playing hypnotic bass fills with one hand and stabbing syncopation and signature melody lines with the other.

Mick draws on his classical guitar and rock background to play his Gibson SG standard in finger-picking style to emulate Robbie Krieger’s beautiful legato tone. From the beautifully atmospheric tremolo of ‘Riders on the Storm’ to the grinding attack of ‘5 to 1’, Mick plays homage to that unique Krieger sound that is impossible to pigeonhole.

And completing the line-up on drums is Lee. John Densmore’s unique fusion of Jazz, Rock and Latin beats still stands unsurpassed for the eclectic signature it placed on The Doors’ sound. Lee unlocks Densmore’s original style, providing the backbeat so vital when paying tribute to this stunning catalogue of classics.

Over 50 years since the release of their first album, The Doors are still popular, influential, controversial, and relevant. Unlocking The Doors takes us back to when ‘The Lizard King’ ruled, while helping a new wave of listeners break on through to the other side.

“If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.” William Blake
