Gogo music has a central and obvious place in everyday life in the hometown of Bagamoyo, where Msafiri Zawose grew up in a large family of musicians with father Hukwe Zawose at the forefront, a giant in Tanzanian music who, among other things, collaborated with Peter Gabriel. At the core of Msafiri Zawose’s music remains the modality and feeling of traditional music, but he also lets his music meet modern styles, including in the organic-electronic hybrid gogo album Uhamiaji, released on UK Soundway.
