bongjeingan is an alternative rock band composed of chiyoonhae (vocals, bass), Hyunjae Lim (guitar), and Iljun Jeon (drums).
The band was born out of a desire to heal one another through music and defies being defined by any one genre. Without setting boundaries, their flow remains unrestricted. Rather than following the paths of “Sultan of the Disco”, “HYUKOH”, or “Kiha & The Faces”, they move forward as bongjeingan, fearlessly expanding their domain with a unique sound and vision.
On December 12, 2022, they released their first digital single, [GAEKKUM / GOOD]. The double-title track “GOOD” was accompanied by a music video directed by Seoulthesoloist from Balming Tiger, with visual artist DAMO creating stunning artwork, elevating the visual experience. Creative director Kim Yeyoung’s profile photo and musician Chang Kiha’s introduction of the single also garnered attention.
Their first full-length album, [12 Languages], released on October 4, 2023, was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2024 Korean Music Awards. Selection committee member Heeyun Lim praised the album, stating, “If Australia has King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, now Korea has bongjeingan.” adding that “this album is a complete rock gift set.”
On June 24, 2024, at noon, they released the single [Know You Did / Say Yes], which features two tracks of the same titles. These songs embody bongjeingan’s signature hypnotic, chant-like melodies, unpredictable song structures, and explosive yet meticulously crafted performances. As always, all members of the band were deeply involved in the production, composition, and arrangement of the music.
