What: King Youngblood @ The Crocodile

When:

King Youngblood @ The Crocodile

Categorically, through the entire history of music and American culture, Black folks have not received proper love or credit, and if they do it is not until decades after their passing. From Sister Rosetta Tharpe to Seattle’s Tina Bell to the contemporary pioneers Fishbone, in the PNW, Black-fronted bands have been in need of the proper support and recognition of the impact they’ve made on music history. After a music festival where they were the only Black bands on the bill, King Youngblood’s Cameron Lavi-Jones and Down North’s Anthony Briscoe aligned to do something about this issue and assembled an incredible team of pros to create Black and Loud Fest. Backed with the support of title sponsor Jack Daniel’s, this festival was born from the DIY spirit to give folks the chance to prevent history from repeating itself. Black and Loud Fest aims to celebrate these bands with folks from all walks of life by sharing experiences and insights about these issues, giving the talented and underrepresented community of alternative Black artists their flowers, and throwing one of the most kick-ass music festivals in the Pacific Northwest. Our goal is to honor the broad spectrum of Black creativity, showcasing how integral these contributions have been to defining American music and culture at large. And guess what?

No matter who you are, you’re invited. Let’s tear it up together.

KING YOUNGBLOOD RECLAIMS ROCK

King Youngblood is focused on reclaiming rock music, specifically black-fronted rock packed with strong songwriting, Afropunk attitude, and an undeniable exhilarating live show. Alternative Press calls King Youngblood “Seattle’s Alt Rock Princes” - they sure got that right. Twenty-three-year-old founder and frontman Cameron Lavi-Jones, along with, drummer Paul “Styqx” Stoot, cellist Chet Peterson, and bassist Samy Garcia have a singular mission: grab heavy guitar/drums rock by the collar and drag it into the willing arms of the fresh new generation of fans currently fueling the world-wide resurgence of rock music. The world agrees with affirming descriptions including AfroPunk Magazine in October 2021 declaring “King Youngblood’s skill at transforming a small phrase into a massive hook is at this point unparalleled in the world of heavy music.”

Their 2022 year is explosive with singles and videos releasing every 30-45 days including the banger – Thousand Songs with a music video that premiered on noncommercial Seattle radio station favorite KEXP 90.3 FM. BIG THANK released March 13, 2022 with a resoundingly loud and rocking celebration at The Crocodile’s Madame Lou’s Room May 11, 2022 filled with industry folks and fans head banging with wild abandon.

Incessant touring, a comic book series called Afrothunda depicting King Youngblood as rockers and superheroes from “Planet Xenon,” more music videos, and unique merchandise all are part of the cavalcade of activity and stuff erupting from King Youngblood in the wake of their breakthrough album Big Thank. And more music is coming in the fall as this band is as prolific in the studio as they are undeniably super charged on stage.
