When:

S.R. Laws @ The Springs Community Farmers' Market

S.R. LAWS IS OUT THERE: He approaches songwriting with a passion for songs that we all grew up on. His sound rings a familiar bell in your head while still delivering ideas completely unique. He draws inspiration from outstanding storytellers like John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Neil Finn, Patty Griffin, Chuck Prophet, and Ron Sexsmith. All of their music and others have carved a deep groove.

Growing up out there in Northern California, he developed a unique connection to music early on. His father worked as a trash collector, and he would spend hours sifting through bags of discarded 45 records. Each find felt like stumbling upon hidden treasures. Some records were covered in dirt and grime, while others were pristine. The thrill of discovering new sounds was exhilarating, and he could hardly wait to drop the needle and immerse himself in the music.

He embarked on a pilgrimage to Texas with just two suitcases and $500 in his bank account. His goal was to dive into the vibrant music scene and learn from fellow songwriters. Austin, known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” offered countless opportunities for him to grow as an artist. Open mics and songwriters’ nights became his training ground, where he soaked up every moment, listening to others share their stories through music.

These days, he resides in Sonoma County, California, working hard as a touring artist and singer-songwriter for his original rock band, The Heartsleeves. He invites everyone to join him on this musical journey, sharing his songs one person at a time in this vast and unpredictable world we live in.

A.M. Sessions

Check out the latest album from S.R. Laws- “A.M. Sessions.” It’s a collection of songs that I am incredibly proud of, crafted with the help of old friends and intrepid new collaborators. I can tell you more about it sometime. Come out and grab a copy at one of the shows or you can find it online. “ “ It is through forthright lyrics that are personal and earnest, that he (Laws) composes lyrical pictures. Taking snapshots from the most common walks of life filtered through his own joy and tribulations.” - David Sampson - Producer Studio Secti West “..relaxed mid-tempo Americana, capturing in each song the rhythmic pocket Laws is known for creating.” - Coyote Music Review 2024 “…His lyrics simply tell first-person stories from his own life. Nothing fancy, he’s not writing to impress–he pours himself, as is, into each phrase and melody.”- Rebecca Roudman- Dirty Cello Radio Hour KRCB Radio 104.9 FM “A.M. Sessions is worth your while.” - Wiley Koepp

S.R. Laws: An inspiring Storyteller in Song

S.R. Laws is a performing and recording original musical artist whose work resonates with a familiar warmth while introducing entirely fresh ideas. Hailed by guitarist/promoter Scotty O’Neill as “an ORIGINAL songwriter who knows how to tell a story clearly in song,” Laws has built a reputation for songs that capture both nostalgia and innovation.

Early Influences and Musical Roots

Growing up in Northern California, Laws developed a deep bond with music at an early age. His father worked as a trash collector, and young Scott Ray Laws (a.k.a. S.R. Laws) spent countless hours digging through discarded 45-rpm records. Each discovery—whether caked in grime or found pristine—felt like unearthing treasure. The thrill of dropping the needle on something new ignited his lifelong passion for song-craft.

The Texas Pilgrimage

With only two suitcases and $500 to his name, Laws set out for Austin, Texas—the “Live Music Capital of the World.” There, open‐mic nights and songwriter showcases became his classroom. Night after night, he honed his craft, forging connections and absorbing the essence of Americana, roots rock, and modern folk.

“It was such a treat catching your set last night—really refreshing to hear something new and original. Thanks for pulling up a chair and hanging out with us—we really enjoyed the conversation and the stories behind your songs.” - Tripp B., Singer-Songwriter

Critical Acclaim

Colleagues and venue owners alike have praised his work and stage presence:

“Scott Ray Laws is a unique and really cool songwriter…he digs into materials, tells a story in his songs, and has a clean baritone vocality that is easy on the ears. We had a chance to meet and hang with Scott back in May…and I had to have him back for a Wednesday evening.” - Luigi, Owner of The Listening Room

“Expect slow-burning passion and vivid music…the kind of energy that turns into ‘let’s stay for just one more!” - Doug, Owner/Wine Maker at Spicy Vines
