When a band is comprised of talent that has built careers and performed for top billing artists such as Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Destiny’s Child, Raphael Saadiq, Jill Scott, Sheila E., Frankie Beverly & Maze, Patti LaBelle, John Legend, Chrisette Michele, and numerous more, you can be certain the music, songwriting and performances will be something truly remarkable. The powerhouse newly reformed band Legally Blynd, is a forceful combination of John “Jubu” Smith (Guitarist/Lead Vocalist,) his brother, Eric “Pik Funk” Smith (Musical Director/Bass/Vocals), Errol Cooney (Guitarist), Carl Wheeler (Keyboards/Vocals), Chris Johnson (Drums/Vocals) World renowned guitarist “Jubu” his brother, international touring bassist “Pik Funk” had a vision to create a band and sound that touches all genres and age groups; soulful, hip, bluesy, jazzy and dynamic. Legally Blynd has been described as diverse and varied with a purposeful exploration of music arrangements and genres. Influences of the band range from the Isley Brothers to Curtis Mayfield to Marvin Gay to B.B. King and Eric Clapton. This “poised for success” group brings a combination of professional experience, resulting in incomparable talent. We named the band “Legally Blynd” as a sentiment to our goals as artists, says lead vocalist Jubu Smith. As well versed musicans we’ve all come across situations where we have been asked to change our music to apply to what has typically been packaged and controlled. But we’re not about that. We want to inspire and bring people joy and love through our music. We want to provide our audience with music that doesn’t conform to traditional categories.
