The 9th Annual South Philly SausageFest kicks off this year on Saturday, September 20, 12 noon-7 pm, on West Passyunk Avenue at South Broad Street.
This year’s festival will feature four food trucks and two restaurants serving all kinds of great sausage – from BBQ links to Bacon-on-a-Stick to classic South Philly sausage with onions and peppers.
Six local breweries – including local favorites BreweryARS, Cartesian Brewing, and Second District – will also be serving up some special summer and fall suds.
This year’s musical line-up will feature some classic blues and hard driving rock-and-roll performed by:
Delcobras
School of Rock (Philly)
Those Looks
Leathered (NYC)
Grace Vonderkuhn
The Jette Planes
There will be over 20 arts & crafts vendors and 40 antiquers.
Leathered were conceived in 2010 by founder Amanda B. Jun as a project for the scraps of riffs and songs she’d developed over the years. The project debuted in Brooklyn, NY as Crazy Pills - named thusly to reflect and affirm her experiences of “being gaslit [her] entire life” as a female, Korean-American transracial adoptee. The band’s warmly received debut album, Restless, and reputation for tight, dynamic live shows led to slots on the Village Voice 4 Knots Festival and sets opening for legends such as Japan’s #1 jet band, Guitar Wolf. After a line-up shift in late 2019, the trio crystallized and rechristened themselves as Leathered. United sonically in a shared admiration of Nick Cave, The Velvet Underground and Sade, Leathered merges the dark but buoyant levity of vocalist and guitarist Jun with bassist Edward Anthony, whose deft R&B-influenced stylings exploit the tensions laid bare by versatile drummer Carter Logan (also of SQÜRL). Leathered’s sophomore full length, A Reckoning, was recorded by Jeff Berner (Psychic TV) at Brooklyn’s storied Studio G and is available everywhere.
