So Where To Today?

SunBorn is an Austrian metal-band from southern Styria, and was formed in 2012 by Mario Suchy on drums and clean vocals, Sebastian Schweighart, providing guitars and gutturals and Nico Mittendrein on the bass guitar. After a few years of honing their skills, songwriting, and a few gigs, they released their first EP, Liberate, released in late 2016, and recorded and mixed at Studio 66 in Gleisdorf. In the following years the band went through several lineup-changes, which could not stop them, however, from releasing their first full-length studio album in 2021, Imperishable. At this point Sebastian Schweighart was on guitar and vocals, Mario Suchy on guitars and clean vocals, Nico Mittendrein on Bass, and the drums were provided by Olivier Ouimet and Flo Plochel. Towards the finalization of Imperishable, Nico’s departure was announced during the Covid crisis, and the remaining members had to regroup. In November 2021, Daniel Moritsch joined the band on guitars, Mario Suchy returned to the drums, and in April 2022 the lineup was completed again when Mario Logar joined the band as bassist. Throughout the years, the band’s genre generally crystallized within the realm of Groove, and Death Metal, with some more modern influences from subgenres of Core, and Tech elements. The band describes their style as grooving Death in general, but constantly plays with, and transcends genre boundaries. In interviews the members stated, they define themselves simply as metal, and prefer not to limit themselves through caste thinking. In March 2023 SunBorn joined with Kvlt und Kaos Productions, a label based in Graz.
