Depuis ses débuts, le groupe s’est démarqué par une énergie scénique fulgurante et une approche musicale qui défie les conventions du prog-metal.Leur premier EP, Out Of The Sky, sorti en 2012, introduit une signature sonore mêlant influences progressives, metal alternatif, post-rock et musique électronique pour un résultat profondément immersif et cinématographique. Leur premier album, Lift Your Existence (2014), affine cette identité sonore et reçoit un accueil enthousiaste, confirmant leur potentiel. En 2016, ils sortent Into The Vanishing Light, produit par Ross Robinson (Slipknot, At The Drive In), sous Equal Vision Records. Cet album marque un changement majeur : il sera le dernier du groupe avec un chanteur.En 2018, NIGHT VERSES revient avec From The Gallery Of Sleep, un album entièrement instrumental qui reçoit une reconnaissance critique unanime et impose le groupe comme un acteur incontournable du prog-metal moderne. Qualifié de “Salvador Dalí du prog-metal” par Noisey/Vice, l’album est décrit comme une œuvre “révolutionnaire” par Revolver, “ambitieuse et créative” par Exclaim! et “majestueuse et audacieuse” par Distorted Sound.Avec la sortie de Every Sound Has a Color in the Valley of Night, NIGHT VERSES continue d’éblouir critiques et public, consolidant leur statut de groupe visionnaire. Night Verses is an instrumental trio of unorthodox musicians based out of Southern California. Their cinematic approach to songwriting and composition focuses on themes of surrealism, cerebral cinema, and ambience for abandoned spaces. Nick Depirro (guitar), Reilly Herrera (bass) and Aric Improta (drums) have mentioned in separate interviews that the band’s constant pursuit is to sound as expansive as possible, while still working within the limitations of what a 3 piece can perform live. They’ve developed unconventional techniques to broaden each member’s sonic potential. Using effects pedals on acoustic drums, live looping, ambient percussion, sampling and synth pads, Night Verses are constantly finding ways to sound like a larger ensemble, without integrating the aid of backing tracks into their songwriting or live show.
This DIY approach to performance also expands into their visual work. The group is responsible for creating all of their merchandise, album artwork, live projections, etc… From hand illustrations to graphic design to video editing, Night Verses members all contribute to make sure the project is as expressive as possible, and that the visuals’ deliberately form in direct translation to the music.
