Who: Cody Tyler

Americana

Cody Tyler and his backing band Gypsy Convoy sport a sound evocative of northern grit with a hint of twang, drawing their influence from multiple generations of country and southern rock troubadours like Merle Haggard, The Allman Brothers Band, and Sturgill Simpson.

Cody’s live performances exhibit a duality akin to Neil Young; being able to make your eyes wet and your heart ache with a tender country song with just his voice and guitar, or make you feel energized and ready to dance with a rollicking road tune as he and Gypsy Convoy take flight.

‘The Convoy’ consists of six-string prodigy Raif Groves (also of New Damage) on lead guitar and vocals, laid back and rock-steady drummer Gavin Orth, groove-oriented, precise fretless bassist, Sean Grahn, and occasionally, Cody’s songwriting compadre, singer/songwriter Jake Mach on pedal steel guitar.

Together, Cody and the band bend genre lines by including elements of bluegrass and southern rock in their unique coal country sound with a rust belt attitude that Cody calls “Black Dirt Country.”
