Who: Sébastien Lépine

With his powerful and deeply expressive playing, Canadian cellist Sébastien Lépine captivates audiences wherever he performs. Celebrated for his magnetic stage presence, he has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, conductor, and composer across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Europe. As a soloist, he has performed with leading ensembles such as the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville, the Orchestre de chambre Appassionata, and Mexico’s Camerata Orquesta de Bellas Artes. Composer Gilles Bellemare even dedicated his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra to him. Lépine’s discography, praised by critics and widely broadcast, showcases his commitment to bold yet accessible projects. His upcoming recording of French sonatas will be released in spring 2026. A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières, McGill University, and Indiana University, he studied with Michaël Kilburn, Antonio Lysy, and the legendary János Starker. A passionate teacher, he is professor of cello, chamber music, and orchestral studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières. He performs on a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume cello and an Eugène Sartory bow, generously loaned by CANIMEX.
