Who: Farzad Milani
Jazz
Farzad is a Montreal-based Persian musician, composer, producer, researcher, vocalist, pianist, and teacher with roots in Iran and a serious love for modal mayhem! Whether he’s weaving through maqams on his quarter-tone accordion (nicknamed Serojeh) or reimagining folk melodies with lush jazz harmonies, he’s always chasing that perfect note that connects cultures.
Armed with a Master’s degree in Music Theory from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, Farzad dives deep into the shared DNA of Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Jewish, Balkan, Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Kurdish music —bridging continents one tetrachord at a time. His microtonal experiments (especially with the Persian 17-tone system) have won both hearts and awards.
Whether solo or with his fusion projects, Farzad’s music is a borderless playground where tradition meets innovation—and everyone’s invited.
