Who: Myles Sanko

Jazz

Myles Sanko, born on May 8, 1980, in Accra, is a British soul and jazz singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and cinematographer. Steeped in both Ghanaian and French heritage, his music embodies a rich tapestry of culture, passion, and unyielding resilience.

His musical journey is one of evolution, from singing and rapping alongside DJs in nightclubs in his hometown of Cambridge to busking on the city’s streets. These humble beginnings served as a stepping stone to a more expansive career.

In 2013, fueled by his entrepreneurial spirit, he independently recorded and released his debut album, “Born In Black & White,” on his own record label, 213 Music. This bold move caught the attention of Légère Recordings (Germany), P-Vine Records (Japan), and Dox Records (Netherlands), which recognized his potential and signed a licensing deal with him. Under their banner, he released a series of albums, including the soulful “Forever Dreaming” in 2014, the introspective “Just Being Me” in 2016, the heartfelt “Memories Of Love” in 2021, and the captivating “Live at Philharmonie Luxembourg” in 2023.

While his earlier work had a modern pop-soul vibrancy, his third studio album, ‘Just Being Me,’ marked a pivotal moment in his career. Characterized by thought-provoking lyrics and beautiful jazz textures, it stands as a testament to Sanko’s evolving artistic identity. He emerged not merely as a singer but also as a storyteller, offering profound insights on love, undying hope, and politics through his music.

Over the years, Myles collaborated with an array of iconic artists, from Gregory Porter and Martha High to China Moses and Ben l’Oncle Soul. His collaborations with the likes of Nicola Conte and Grammy Award-winning conductor Gast Waltzing further amplified his versatility.

For Myles, music isn’t just a medium of expression; it’s a channel to touch souls. He articulates, “My intention is to produce music that radiates positivity. Through my songs, I aim not only to uplift but also to inspire introspection in my listeners.” Additionally, he has set a personal goal: to produce 15 albums by the age of 60. Considering his current trajectory, he seems well on track to achieve this impressive milestone.
