Experience the sound everyone is talking about when The Smoogies bring their electrifying People Music movement to Crazy Uncle Mike’s in Boca Raton for an intimate, high-energy live performance presented by Sound Merchandise Entertainment.
Described as “a musical smoothie blended with many cultures, life experiences, and certainly a vibe,” The Smoogies are a collective of world-class, multi-instrumentalist composers rooted in Miami and South Florida. Their sound moves seamlessly through modern jazz, funk, Afro-Cuban rhythms, Brazilian influences, and deep groove improvisation, creating a live experience that is as soulful as it is boundary-pushing.
Led by Vaughn “V.KEYS” Henry (keys & vocals), alongside Dion Kerr (bass), Harvel Nakundi (drums & percussion), and David Chiverton (drums), The Smoogies have individually performed with legendary artists including Lauryn Hill, Snarky Puppy, Ghost-Note, Richard Bona, Marcus Strickland, Kirk Franklin, Ignacio Berroa, Godwin Louis, Etienne Charles, and more.
Praised internationally for their live performances—“one of the best shows you’ll see this year” (Ronnie Scott’s, London)—The Smoogies don’t just play music; they build community through sound. Their concerts invite audiences into a shared musical journey where groove, creativity, and connection take center stage.
If you love live jazz in Boca Raton, jazz fusion concerts in South Florida, or discovering cutting-edge artists in intimate venues, this is a must-see performance.

What do you call a group of diverse, talented, multi-instrumentalist composers? You call them ‘The Smoogies’ — a musical smoothie blended with many cultures, life experiences, and certainly “a vibe.”
The Smoogies are Vaughn “V.KEYS” Henry (keys, vocals), Dion Kerr (bass), Harvel Nakundi (drums, percussion), and David Chiverton (drums), all of whom are formally trained musicians from South Florida. Each member has served interchangeably as leader and accompanist to various performing acts worldwide, operating in groups such as Lauryn Hill, Snarky Puppy, Ghost Note, Marcus Strickland, Etienne Charles, and Godwin Louis, to name a few.
The band has recently won the “Jazz Road” touring grant from South Arts, kicking off their debut tour for their forthcoming second record, People Music. The Smoogies refine their sound as a quartet, deepening their connection and cohesion with this album. They also hope to continue the band’s philosophy: to make music for the people and for the people to feel good while listening.
Beginning their career with a feature on the digital music series, “The Chivertone Sessions,” The Smoogies quickly developed a buzz, catching the ear of trumpeter Nicholas Payton. This led to their collaboration on the self-released debut Planet Smoogies.
