CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE’S WORLD AT SEA: EXCITING – ENTERTAINING – ENERGIZING

Christian McBride’s World at Sea is an entertainment experience that reflects the multi-dimensional talents, interests and music of 9X GRAMMY® Winner Christian McBride. Known worldwide as a master of creating and producing various ensembles, guests who are accustomed to seeing and hearing one of his amazing groups at a time will now be treated to an entire week of Inside Straight, Remembering Ray Brown, Christian’s Big Band and more. Fine dining experiences, Artist-hosted tastings, in-depth interviews, educational and inspirational sessions and some events that are simply fun for all are part and parcel of Christian McBride’s World at Sea.

Christian is a man of great energy, fun-loving and engaging. When on the bandstand, his respect for the music dominates his demeanor. Always a leader, he is taking in every note by every musician. Off the bandstand, he brings joy to everyone he meets. He was born to host this cruise.

DAYTIME ENTERTAINMENT On most cruises, a Day at Sea is a time for a good book and a nap. You may do that on McBride’s World at Sea, but you would be missing fun aspects of Christian’s world, including special interviews, Artist-Hosted Events, pool parties, lunch events and, of course, great music. Daytime shows may be presented in any of the music venues (The Theatre, Rendezvous Lounge or Sky Lounge). Special shows may also be seen and heard on the pool deck or in The Cosmopolitan Restaurant, the main dining room of the ship. Daytime music shows are presented on a first come, first served basis.

NIGHTLY MAIN SHOWS Each night is highlighted by our Main Shows in The Theatre. To ensure that every guest can attend each special show, shows are performed twice, sometimes on the same night, sometimes on alternate days. The Main Shows take place at 5:30 PM (1st Show) and 8:45 PM (2nd Show) most nights. Half the guests attend the first show and enjoy dinner afterwards. The other guests dine first and then attend the second show. Guests’ show selection was made at the time of their reservation and is confirmed by the color of their Cruise Identification card (BLUE – 1st Show / RED – 2nd Show).

CRUISING AFTER DARK Signature Jazz Cruises programs are renowned for special late-night entertainment called “Cruising After Dark.” Starting around 10:30 PM, the entire ship will be alive with music, parties, comedy, dancing and much more. Besides concerts in The Theatre and Sky Lounge, The Cosmopolitan Restaurant is seamlessly converted into a lovely late-night, cabaret-style venue. The Rendezvous Lounge becomes a party “spot” that features dancing, karaoke, silent disco, special drinking games, cool food selections and revelry until the wee hours of the morning. Cruise Director Mario Vines and our favorite DJ patrol the Rendezvous Lounge making it fun for all. “ENJOY” EVENTS Sometimes events are presented on the cruise just to have fun. We are careful not to share too much of this information now as the element of surprise is part of the excitement, but there are three types of events we produce just for the sheer enjoyment of doing so. There’s something special for everyone.

Who: Dan Wilson Jazz Guitarist

Funk

Growing up in Akron, Ohio, Dan Wilson spent the majority of his youth within the church community, where his musical path began.

Traces of his major guitar influences – including Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, and George Benson to name a few – can be discerned through his playing, but his musical identity has been shaped by everything from gospel and blues to traditional jazz, hip-hop and horn players like Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson.

After graduating from Hiram College, Wilson made his recording debut with pianist Joe McBride and performed to worldwide acclaim with Joey DeFrancesco and Christian McBride’s Tip City, eventually recording his debut as a leader To Whom It May Concern.

Wilson has had the honor of sharing the stage with jazz greats including Eric Marienthal, Russell Malone, Les McCann, René Marie, Jeff Hamilton, David Sanborn and Dave Stryker. He also teaches jazz guitar and music theory through private lessons.

Wilson’s career took him on an exploratory journey into foundations laid down by the guitar/organ tradition, eventually leading to an invitation to perform with jazz great Joey DeFrancesco’s trio quartet, with which Wilson went on to earn a GRAMMY® Award nomination with for DeFrancesco’s Project Freedom album (Mack Avenue Records, 2017).

This collaboration allowed the guitarist to insert his own dialect into the musical prowess and respect that DeFrancesco had earned throughout his journey.

Wilson had been playing with DeFrancesco for a few years when he met bassist, composer, arranger, Christian McBride. From there, Wilson went on to tour with McBride’s trio Tip City, eventually leading McBride to serve as producer on “Vessels of Wood and Earth” and release the album on his newly formed imprint Brother Mister Productions through Mack Avenue Music Group.

Wilson’s latest Mack Avenue release, “Thing Eternal,” features his current working band featuring David Throckmorton (drums), Brandon Rose (bass), Glenn Zaleski (piano), Nigel Hall (vocals), Jessica Yafanaro (vocals), and Tommy Lehman (vocals), was released in May of 2023.
