Sold out performances of “The Redgum Years” across Australia have whipped up a fair bit of demand for a live record. Thus it comes to pass…On Saturday, 23rd and Sunday 24th of August (matinee), John and the Crew load into their favourite Melbourne venue to record two “Redgum Years” concerts for a live album.
Trump fans won’t like it, nor will the right-wing shock jocks, climate change deniers, Murdoch’s playmates etc etc … Too bad. With the working title “Corrugated Highway” to be produced by Shane Nicholson, this album will continue the tradition of “Caught in the Act” – timeless Australian songs, a slick band, great harmonies and John Schumann.
In Redgum and then the Vagabond Crew, John Schumann has earned for himself a reputation as a one of the best frontmen in the country – the dry-humoured artist/intellectual with an acerbic tongue, an unerring popular touch and a campfire voice. Schumann’s capacity to engage an audience was first captured on Redgum’s most successful album, “Caught in the Act” recorded live in 1983 at the Three Weeds in Rozelle, Sydney. “Corrugated Highway” is the next chapter. Write yourself into it at the Memo Music Hall on August 23rd and 24th.
