Dana Fuchs star icon Friday, Oct. 3 at 8:00 PM Dana Fuchs is one of the world’s most respected rock stars today. Her hypnotic voice and sheer presence on any stage have led critics to compare her to other great musicians such as Janis Joplin, Otis Redding and Mick Jagger.
Dana Fuchs, a blues, rock and soul singer-songwriter with a voice like rough sandpaper, was born in New Jersey and grew up in Wildwood, Florida. There, she found musical inspiration in her parents’ record collection, which included records by Ray Charles and Hank Williams. When Dana Fuchs graduated from high school, she simply had to follow her musical muse and go to New York City, where she quickly took to Broadway when she got a major role in the Janis Joplin musical Love Janis. Not long after, she sprinkled stardust around her again in Julie Taymor’s romantic musical drama Across the Universe, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Golden Globe Awards.
Dana’s latest effort, Borrowed Time, sees her revisit her Southern rock roots with a dangerously delicious collection of her incredible songs and lyrics. Producer Bobby Harlow - who has produced The Detroit Cobras and Samantha Fish, among others - has managed to capture the tornado-like intensity, the pressure, the power, the restraint and the passion that characterize Dana’s stage shows, and boil it all down to studio album form.
