Indie Pop

Steph Hope (Wiffeney) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose body of work is best described as “beautiful, psychedelic vomit.”

Hope’s visual and musical stylings find balance in contradiction. Her soulful voice gently floats over jazz fusion, but her preferred soundscapes are full of oddball plucking, whirring synths, and mutant pitch-shifted backing vocals.

Hope hails from Didcot, England, a town crowned statistically “the most normal town in England” in a 2015 study. The specific peculiarity and comedy of her work is directly motivated by such a powerfully mundane place. Steph Hope is part of a waning group of traditional animators — opting for 2D animations drawn on paper.

Her passion for the enticing yet unsettling was forged straight out of art school working on the legendary Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared web series.

Since then she has created visuals for Japanese music icon Haruomi Hosono, MNDSGN, Kate Bollinger, Vels Trio, and Orions Belte, among others. Her animations have been commissioned by FX Networks, VICE and Stones Throw and shown on Channel 4 (UK). Her work has received awards at Minimalen Film Festival and The Visuelt Awards (NO) and she was named as one of the Young Guns 17 by The One Club For Creativity (NY).

Releasing late 2025, her self-titled debut was produced by Jai D (Tyler, the Creator, Jungle Brothers, Jay-Z), engineered by Jack Boston (The Cure), and recorded at the historical Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales.
