Bach revelled in the possibilities of the multi-instrument concerto, with different voices collaborating and contibuting to the whole. We present to of his glorious creations in this form: the third Brandburg Concerto and the Concerto for Oboe and Violin.
The story of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, musician, soldier and sportsman, throws a light on the political turbulence in 18th century France and on the legacy of colonialism and slavery. His works attained widespread acclaim in his lifetime, including the admiration of Queen Marie Antoinette. We perform his charming Symphonie Concertante in G major.
