When:

Jo Harman @ Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Foot-stomping, heartbreaking, spellbinding – some Music Room legends return to sing the blues. On this tenth anniversary, the pioneering Catfish Keith makes his tenth appearance on our stage, and award-winning, best-selling blues/soul vocalist Jo Harman performs for us for the third time too. We’re also delighted to welcome back Connie Lush from retirement to perform a couple of songs. She was the artist who performed the very first test event at the Music Room’s launch and treated us to a Christmas residency in 2019.

World-touring, multi award-winning acoustic blues pioneer Catfish Keith has established himself as one of the most exciting country blues performers of our time. Handing down the tradition, Catfish’s innovative style of deep delta blues and American roots music has spellbound audiences the world over. Establishing himself as one of the brightest lights in acoustic blues and roots music, he has reinvented the guitar with great power and artistry, and brings a rare beauty and vitality to his music. Catfish has 21 number one independent radio chart-topping albums to his credit, has performed with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles and Taj Mahal, and packs out houses with his dynamic stage show.

Widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest soul/blues-fuelled voices, Jo Harman remains a genre-defying, independently minded artist of rare credibility. Making sincere and heartfelt music, The Mirror proclaimed her the UK’s ‘finest female soul blues voice’ who, according to Classic Rock, writes ‘lip-biting beautiful songs’. A multi award-winning performer, Jo has achieved considerable success at home and abroad, headlining prestigious venues and festivals around the world. Her album People We Become received much critical acclaim, and its lead single, ‘When We Were Young’, was playlisted on BBC Radio 2 and other mainstream stations across Europe.

Who: Jo Harman

Singer-songwriter

Jo Harman is an award winning vocalist who has performed at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including performing for, and with, the likes of Patti Smith and Joan Baez in Berlin. The Daily Mirror called her ’the finest female soul blues vocalist in the UK’ and Huey Morgan said on his Radio 2 programme ‘sometimes you hear a voice that leaves you speechless…I am’. She is widely recognised as one of the finest vocalists and writers to emerge in Europe over recent years, and has the CV, and industry admirers, to back it up. Some brief career highlights to date include:-

  • her DIY debut album, released in 2013, being picked up V2 Records (Adele, Mumfords) etc in the Low Countries where it made the national album charts (alongside mainstream TV and Radio appearances for Jo)
  • she has played around 100 festivals in recent years - many as headliner - across a number of countries, simply by dint of ‘word of mouth’ reputation, culminating in 4 consecutive appearances at ‘BluesFest’ - resulting in her ‘Jo Harman Live at The Royal Albert Hall recorded by the BBC’ live album. Jo was also one of only 12 (otherwise household name) artists to play ParkPop in the Hague to 300,000 people.
  • Jo was one of a handful of (otherwise household named) artists asked to appear at Amnesty’s ‘Ambassador of Conscience’ Awards in Berlin where she performed for, and with, Joan Baez (and Patti Smith).
  • Jo has just recorded a much anticipated second studio album in Nashville, working with producer Fred Mollin (Carole King, Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, BB King etc) which is scheduled to be released early in 2017.

Live, her soul fuelled show ranges from hard rock to intimate, heart-warming ballads and features both her own emotive songwriting, but also personal takes on well-known standards and songs that mean a lot to her.

“Brilliant…get it!’ Mail On Sunday “sometimes you hear a voice that leaves you speechless….I am’ Huey Morgan on Radio 2 “A must hear album” Jazz FM “On course to be the finest female soul and blues vocalist in the UK” Daily Mirror Stunning…our tip for 2013.
