Indeed, when singer Antonija Batinić lifts her powerful voice, both extremes can be felt at the same time – as the emotions transcend any need to understand the language. The band Mostar Sevdah Reunion has long championed »Sevdah«, also known as »Bosnian blues«. Blending violin, rhythmic guitars and vocal melodies, this is music that goes straight to the heart. Thanks to their efforts, this traditional folk music originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina is now known in many countries around the world.

Who: Mostar Sevdah Reunion

Mostar Sevdah Reunion is musical ensemble from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina playing almost exclusively sevdalinka and gypsy music. The band is composed of experienced musicians and often collaborates with renowned musicians in the field of gypsy music: they made an album with Šaban Bajramović and two albums with Ljiljana Buttler. Ljiljana often tours with the band too.
The band was formed in Mostar 1998 at Music Center Pavarotti. Their first CD was released 1999. Since then they became a real world music attraction preforming on various world music festivals and receiving a number of music awards.
