Award-winning pianist and composer Hüseyin Sermet is an artist at the peak of his powers; his extensive repertoire, refined over the course of a distinguished fifty-year career, reflects his wide-ranging musical interests and pianistic versatility.
He has performed and recorded with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Gautier Capuçon, Renaud Capuçon, Maria João Pires, Mstislav Rostropovich, Jonathan Nott, Lorin Maazel, and Michel Plasson; and has worked with leading orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de Lyon, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
His compositions include Réminiscence (premiered at the Empéri Festival in 1997 and broadcast live by France Musique), Dream and Nightmare (2004, commissioned by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra), and Sculptures (2006, commissioned by İş Bank).
Hüseyin Sermet has recorded extensively for Naïve, Harmonia Mundi, and Erato. His award-winning discography includes his first volume of Ravel’s solo piano works, three acclaimed recordings of Alkan (each receiving the Diapason d’Or), a collection of Schubert’s works for four hands with Maria João Pires, and interpretations of Liszt’s Sonata and late works (both awarded Choc du Monde de la Musique).
A pupil of Thierry de Brunhoff, Olivier Messiaen, and Nadia Boulanger, he has won prizes at the Maurice Ravel, Queen Elizabeth, and Geza Anda piano competitions.
