Hills of Belgium is an old-time music duo: two voices, a fiddle and a banjo breathing new life into songs and melodies rooted in American tradition.
After two acclaimed EPs, dozens of concerts across Europe (UK, Italy, France, the Netherlands) and an initiatory trip through the Appalachian homeland of old-time music, the duo released their first full album in Fall 2024.
Musician-explorers Jérémie Fraboni and Lorcan Fahy are eager to share the rare treasures they’ve discovered through research, travel, and encounters along the way. Grounded in the oldest sources yet attentive to today’s bold and inventive artists, they celebrate a tradition that remains very much alive.
In this debut album, Lorcan and Jérémie weave together classic influences (Uncle Dave Macon, Roscoe Holcomb, Burnett & Rutherford) with contemporary inspirations (Sam Amidon, Rhiannon Giddens, Joseph Decosimo) to strike out in fresh directions.
With new original compositions, a brass section (Pauline Leblond and Alice Riberolles) and drums (Antoine Rotthier) as guests, the duo forges “Old-Time & Brass” — a Belgian-flavored take on Appalachian music that honors its roots while expanding its horizons.
