MARTY WILLSON-PIPER (UK) ist ein Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter, der vor allem als langjähriges Mitglied der australischen Psychedelic Rock-Band The Church (1980-2013) bekannt ist. In seiner über 45-jährigen Karriere hat er an einer Vielzahl von Musikprojekten mitgewirkt, darunter Kollaborationen mit All About Eve, Brix Smith (The Fall) und Cinerama / David Gedge (Wedding Present). Mit seiner alten Band The Church hatte er in den 80ern den Welthit “Under The Milky Way”. Durch die Mischung aus Psychedelic Rock, Folk und alternativen Einflüssen bleibt Willson-Pipers Musik sehr atmosphärisch und introspektiv. Dieses Jahr im Mai bringt Willson-Piper “Archaeological Dig - Volume 1” auf den Markt, den ersten Teil einer geplanten Trilogie von Veröffentlichungen, auf denen er über 30 Songs aus seinem umfangreichen Katalog neu eingespielt hat. Live in Hamburg wird er Material von Soloalben, natürlich Church Songs und seinen zahlreichen Projekten spielen - neu interpretiert und lyrisch statt rockig. Dies ist sein einziges Deutschlandkonzert!

GRABBEL AND THE FINAL CUT sind ein Phänomen. 15 Jahre nach ihrer Auflösung wird die Band aus Lüneburg vom angesagten New Yorker Indie-Label Captured Tracks wiederentdeckt, das eine 7-inch EP mit drei alten Songs von 1991 herausbringt. Besser spät als nie, und dann geht alles doch ganz schnell: Weltweite Anerkennung, Wiedervereinigung, Live Konzerte (u.a. mit Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub, Close Lobsters, Bollock Brothers) und die ersten neuen Songs seit den 90ern. Der Musikexpress nennt es einen “begeisternden Hybrid zwischen Noise und Shoegaze”. Die Hamburger Markthalle kündigt sie an als “die schönste und einzige Band-Reunion ohne faden Beigeschmack”. Und ByteFM bemerkt zurecht: “Die Geschichte dieser Band ist etwas Besonderes!”

GRABBEL AND THE FINAL CUT are a phenomenon… 15 years after their demise the band from Germany has been rediscovered by the hip New York indie label Captured Tracks, who released the band’s better-late-than-never “debut” EP. Nobody seems to mind that the songs on GET YOUR FEET BACK ON THE GROUND are two decades old and had been produced back then on 4-track cassette tape in true home recording style, using cheap yellow plastic microphones from the local Woolworth store. German print magazine Musikexpress calls the record a timeless and thrilling “hybrid between noise and shoegaze that doesn’t look its age” and bloggers worldwide pay homage to the group’s authentic 1990s guitar sound.

Taking this opportunity to reunite, the band got back together again – first playing a reunion concert at their hometown university in Lüneburg (sold out!), followed by more shows and finally joining Phillip Boa And The Voodoo Club on tour. Since then, the four have played many shows all over Germany and played their first gig abroad – by special request of Scottish C86 indie pop legends Close Lobsters in their hometown of Glasgow.

And they’re writing new songs: GRABBEL AND THE FINAL CUT have released the album MMXVI and the YOU ARE THE SUN remix EP, featuring the band’s first new studio material since the 90s! If the 1991 Psycho Popsong was the “link into the present age” for the band (to quote Musikexpress), then new tracks like THE PIONEER or DREAMS END HERE are the leap into the future.
