Who: Garreth Broke

Contemporary Classical

Garreth Broke’s music explores what it means to be human in a harsh but beautiful world.

He has been composing music since his early teens. What began as a source of pleasure became an escape during a crisis that consumed his family when his mother faced a severe battle with depression, culminating in a suicide attempt.

After studying music at the University of Oxford, he began collaborating with German contemporary artist Anna Salzmann on a series of works that combined music and art, using the pen name Garreth Broke.

Since then, he has released music with 1631 Recordings, Bigo & Twigetti, THESIS, and Moderna Records. His music has received airplay from BBC Radio 3, KEXP, and NTS, and he has shared the stage with musicians including Hania Rani, Clemens Christian Poetzsch, and Simeon Walker.

His latest album, Life Through Loss, will be released in September 2025 on the renowned German label Neue Meister. Deeply informed by Garreth’s personal experience of bereavement and his work as a volunteer ‘Trauerbegleiter’ (grief companion), the album offers a nuanced exploration of grief in all its complexity—embracing both pain and hope. Through evocative piano compositions, Garreth distills not only his own evolving grief for his mother but also the shared stories of those he has accompanied through loss. Life Through Loss stands as a compassionate and insightful tribute to anyone who has experienced grief, inviting listeners to find solace and meaning within their own journeys.

“a sensitive and profound artist” - PianoDao “Lovely… genuinely uplifting” - Stationary Travels “cuts through the noise of overwrought emotions and cheap platitudes, and speaks directly to the heart, reminding people through the beauty of music and art that others have been there too.” - No Dead Guys
