What: ZZZTEFANOS @ The Rum Shack

When:

ZZZTEFANOS @ The Rum Shack

A new regular experimental night at The Rum Shack that pairs artists from wildly different practices to find out WHAT HAPPENS WHEN they come together to create something new and weird.

The event will spotlight different local talents and spread the word about their practice while simultaneously shaking them out of their comfort zone and setting them new collaborative challenges. Scenes will cross over, people will make life long friends, bands will form, arguments will break out, and miracles as yet unthought of will all occur at WHAT HAPPENS WHEN…? No two will be the same.

YOU’RE A RAT (and so am i) is all about rivalry, jealousy, envy and competition within artistic scenes, emotions we normally try to repress. But the 9th of September will create space for this taboo: we have gathered submissions from you, our audience, that detail your own jealous encounters which our artists have used as a basis for new work. Violinist Masha Zhuravlova is joining forces with electronic punk rock artist ZZZTEFANOS to explore one anonymous submission as it is read aloud by writer/producer Enea Orsolini. Medea will then take over proceedings with her dazzling drag act while fine artist Magdalene Edos paints her live, the pair exploring ideas of self-comparison. The event will be hosted by a whole cast of vitriolic puppets crafted by Thalia Power and performed by Dix McDevitt.

ZZZTEFANOS (stefanos) is an experimental electronic punk / industrial rock musician and producer from Croydon, now based in Glasgow. First release was an ‘instrumental’ electronic/drone track called “SAFE SPACE” (2021), which was followed the first LP called “DARK ZEUSIGKEITEN” (2023), which had a heavy electronic rock sound. The most recent release by ZZZTEFANOS, was an EP entitled “NEUROVISION” (2024) which has a much more electronic sound with references to the sounds from his SWANA / Levantine roots, with his reimagining of “MISIRLOU (ΜΙΣΙΡΛΟΥ)”, an ancient traditional song from Ottoman Asia Minor, as well as the traditional “SYRTAKI (ΣΥΡΤΑΚΙ)”, that is The Zorba Dance, an instrumental track by Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis. He has been doing the local gig circuit around his home city Glasgow where he has been performing some of the new works in the pipeline.
