Moni Jitchell are a two-piece punk band from Glasgow, comprised of vocalist and drummer Grant Donaldson (also of Civil Elegies and ex-Outblinker) and 12-string guitarist David Scott (ex-Thin Privilege). Both minimalistic and feral, their sound flits from the noisecore technicality of Converge to the punk fury of HIRS Collective and the mangled electronics of Melt Banana at their most outré.
While the band had planned to recruit extra members, COVID left them unable to fit anyone else into their practice space. During this enforced stasis, the pair honed their live show, augmenting Donaldson’s raw screams and Scott’s guitar skronk with dense backing tracks and electronics. This drumless configuration has racked up shows alongside mclusky, MSPAINT, Iceage, and Cloakroom.
‘UNREAL’, the band’s first LP, was released in 2023, with music videos for singles ‘Waves’ and ‘Hell of a Yeah’. In the promotion of the record, they toured the UK, including a headline set at the inaugural CORE. Festival in Glasgow, and hosted a takeover for Amazing Radio in August 2023.
Their new single ‘Agnostic Blunt’ is released 5 Sept 2024, with a second LP to follow in 2025.
