Clay Rings bring a pop of Mediterranean colour and good vibes to the age-old quest of finding yourself - “The band encapsulates what it is to be in your twenties, a liminal stage between youth and adulthood where no one really has anything figured out.” - Alekia Gill, New Age Magazine.
The band put a new twist on the tried-and-true guitar rock formula, blending in the rhythms, instrumentation and lyrics of Spanish music with British alt-rock. This influence comes from guitarist Oli Ausin (Guitar and Vocals), who hails from Asturias, combined with the other four band members, Eve Scrimger (Vocals and Trumpet), Jay Russell (Guitar and Keys), Freddie Duck (Bass and Vocals) and Loris Amendola (Drums), from Scotland, England, and Italy.
The diverse group of musicians bring different genres and styles to the table, combined with their collaborative style of composing, their set is eclectic as they perform songs with a base of grunge, garage-rock, blues-rock, surf-rock, cumbia, bossa nova, post-punk, and everything in between. Being deeply inspired by late 70s British/American and 80s Spanish rock music, they combine high energy guitar solos and harmonies from bands like Fleetwood Mac or The Mammas and The Pappas, with 90s-00s rock of Pixies or Arctic Monkeys. Eve’s lyrics draw inspiration from the magnificent Ella Fitzgerald, and her trumpet adds another layer of authenticity to her music. “That being said, especially electrifying is when lead singer, Eve, picks up her trumpet. Her solos don’t only display an impressive amount of breath control mid-set, but they lift the music to a higher, funkier level.” (SNACK Magazine). Oli makes the Spanish influences come through by adding elements of Latin American music from bands like Buena Vista Social club, classic rock bands from her youth such as Amaral and Fito y Fitipaldies, or more British inspired rock like Dover, Pignoise and Hinds.
The band has a commitment to experimentation with the music they create and every song is a complete voyage which keeps evolving in unexpected ways. “Clay Rings slides so smoothly into a different realm, which I really like. A song that takes you on a sort of journey” says Lindsey Brown about the single In My Bed.
This unique mix is generating a significant amount of buzz in the Scottish underground scene and across the UK. The band has been consistently gigging since their debut at “Endless Summer” 2023 supporting Sister Madds in the Hug and Pint, culminating in a 4-date headline tour of the UK in summer 2025 that featured packed-out shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, and London, as well as 2 performances at Eden Festival. Later on in the summer of 2025, Clay Rings headlined the Strathaven Balloon Festival, an event that drew a crowd of over 40,000 people. Other notable shows include a sold-out debut headline at the Hug and Pint in 2024, a slot in Stag and Daggers 2024 summer festival in Nice and Sleazy, and a release party at the Poetry club SWG3. The band have supported bands of the likes of Pedalo, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Moreish Idols, Belako, Blue Violet and Honeymoan.
The band’s most recent single “Blue-Boy’s Dreams” was featured in SNACK magazine, and was reviewed at 5 stars by Discovery Music Scotland, as was previous single ‘Limelight’. Music from the band’s debut EP, “For A While, It Was Beautiful”, has been featured on Sunny G Radio, Avondale Radio Station, and Gig Brother Radio, with Discovery Music also giving a 5-star review to the lead single “In My Bed”. The band has been the first musical act to have a featured interview by the New Age Magazine for being led by two front women. They have featured on radio shows, including live performances and interviews, such as Avondale Radio and Strathclyde Fusion Radio.
