What: Ultan O'Brien @ St. Patrick's Church

When:

Ultan O'Brien @ St. Patrick's Church

An evening of rare and compelling alchemy from the distinctive, prizewinning poet Rosamund Taylor and one of Ireland’s foremost musicians, fiddler and composer Ultan O’Brien.

Rosamund Taylor’s poetry writes the female perspective with an earthy lyricism that draws inspiration from the natural world. She delicately and precisely describes animals, from a squirrel to a whale, in an astonishing feat of empathic joining, where she becomes the creature while at the same time honouring its own dignified and independent life. Her first collection In Her Jaws has been widely acclaimed and shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney Poetry Prize.

“A book of astonishments whose poems gaze towards the night sky and all that stirs in the dark below, swooping the reader through mysteries of desire and discovery. Taylors voice is by turns tender, sharp, luminous; her poems are wondrous” – Doireann Ní Ghríofa

Ultan O’Brien hails from County Clare and embraces the spirit of improvisation and innovation of the great fiddle players of the past. His musical journey has led him to play and record with Skipper’s Alley, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, John Francis Flynn and Slow Moving Clouds amongst others. He has garnered widespread critical acclaim for his recently released debut solo album Dancing the Line.

“(Dancing The Line) is a stunning and frequently surprising album that presents a vision of music rooted in the traditional genre, yet unafraid to reach beyond its boundaries for inspiration.” – Jim Keaveney
