Anna Clyne Restless Oceans (Irish Premiere) Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto Shostakovich Symphony No. 5

One of the greatest Romantic concertos, one of the 20th century’s most gripping declarations, and a ‘defiant piece that embraces the power of women’.

The Irish premiere of Anna Clyne’s ‘instantly gripping, totally exhilarating’ (Limelight) Restless Oceans calls on the orchestra ‘to use their voices in song… and their feet to stomp and bring them to stand united at the end’.

Tchaikovsky’s emotional rollercoaster Violin Concerto is a passion-filled duet between singing violin and orchestra leaving the listener shaken and stirred.

A testament to endurance and survival against the odds and 50 years after his death, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony runs the gamut from despair to elation, fuelled by memorable tunes and fevered energy.

Conductor Anna Rakitina, who ‘ought to be high on any music-lover’s agenda’ (Boston Globe) makes her National Symphony Orchestra Ireland debut. NCH Young Musician of the Year winner, violinist Mairéad Hickey, ‘an amazing combination of gutsiness and ecstasy’ (The Irish Times), returns as soloist.
