Deepika’s journey is one of rediscovery—seeking to reconnect with the lost threads of her heritage while creating music that speaks to the present. Born in Delhi and now based in Mumbai, she has been a student of Hindustani singing and ghazals under various gurus since her childhood days.
She writes music in Hindi, Urdu, and English, made for moments of introspection & healing. Over the years, she has found herself intuitively drawn to themes of hope, love, and transcendence. Her style weaves peaceful yet shimmering soundscapes, where influences of Ghazal, Retro Bollywood, Jazz, Indie Folk, and Dream Pop intertwine. Listeners may find echoes of artists like Ali Sethi, Rekha Bharadwaj, Arooj Aftab, Mehdi Hassan, Jagjit Singh, Novo Amor, and Bon Iver in her work.
As a third-generation artist post-partition, Deepika finds herself distanced from her Punjabi and Urdu roots. Though she communicates primarily in English, her fascination with Urdu poetry drives her to reconnect with the language through her music, offering a contemporary interpretation of this lost heritage.
Through her immersive performances, whether rooted in the traditional ghazal or her original creations, Deepika brings a fresh, experimental, and honest perspective. A captivating performer and warm host, she invites audiences into a space where the music is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Her artistic expression reflects the fluidity of her experiences and lineage, allowing her to bridge past and present effortlessly.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Deepika’s background in the indie music industry spans over seven years, where she has worked as an artist & event manager with organizations like Nrtya, Big Bad Wolf, and House Concert Foundation. While she has transitioned away from management, she continues to support fellow musicians as an artist development consultant and curates her own IPs, contributing to the vibrant music community she holds dear.
