Handel penned Water Music in 1717 for a party on the River Thames. In 2024, Music of the Baroque performed it on the Chicago River while thousands cheered us on. Find out what the buzz is about! The “Strong Voices” student chorus joins Dame Jane Glover and the ensemble for excerpts from the iconic work, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and more. The evening culminates in “Hallelujah, Chicago,” a community singalong featuring the famous “Hallelujah” Chorus from Messiah. Come help us make the Chicago River sing!
Led by acclaimed British conductor Jane Glover, music director since 2002, Music of the Baroque is the Midwest’s leading professional chorus and orchestra specializing in eighteenth-century music. Sixty of the Chicago area’s finest professional musicians make up the chorus and orchestra of Music of the Baroque. The ensemble presents seventeen performances of seven different concert programs in a season running from September to May. Energizing concerts. Imaginative programs. Extraordinary music-making. www.baroque.org
