What: Al Stewart @ Tupelo Music Hall

When:

Al Stewart @ Tupelo Music Hall

Al Stewart will be celebrating his 80th birthday with a Farewell Tour. Al, who recently relocated to Chandler, Arizona after spending 45 years in Los Angeles, is winding down his touring schedule alongside his longtime band, The Empty Pockets and saxophonist Chase Huna.

“I can still see doing occasional shows here and there, but as for the long tours in faraway places, this is it.”

He’ll be performing fan favorites - songs like Year of the Cat, Time Passages, On the Border, and Modern Times - along with selections from his deep catalog.

In Al’s own words: “I’m just a folk singer that is interested in history and wine that got lucky with some hit records! It’s as simple as that, really.”

The tour begins with a series of East Coast U.S. dates from late August through early September, then continues in late September with concerts in Amsterdam, the UK, and Ireland.

Who: Al Stewart

Folk
Al Stewart (born September 5, 1945) is a British songwriter and musician. He is best known for his 1976 single “Year of the Cat” and its 1978 follow-up “Time Passages” (both produced by Alan Parsons). Stewart’s inspiration for his songs primarily comes from the past; indeed, he is credited with creating his own genre, “historical folk rock”. At one time in his life, Stewart took guitar lessons from King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp. Stewart was born in Glasgow, Scotland but grew up in the coastal resort town of Bournemouth, Dorset. He emigrated to the United States as his career took off in the mid 1970s, and still lives in California. While studio albums are now few and far between, he still tours extensively in the United States, and, most years, in Europe. Recordings of concerts are often made available through his fan clubs.
