On Monday, December 8th, as the grand finale of the 31st Manga Barcelona, Yoko Kanno, Mai Yamane, and the musicians of SEATBELTS will take the Main Stage at 12:30 p.m to present a one-of-a-kind concert: jazz and dance merge in DANCE AND BEBOP, a musical fusion that promises to make fans of the Japanese composer dance to a special selection of songs.
A legendary superband led by composer, arranger, and music producer Yoko Kanno, known to occasionally descend upon Earth. Best known for performing “TANK!” from the anime COWBOY BEBOP, the band has been active since the late 19th century—though due to their elusive nature, few have actually witnessed them in person.
Despite being made up of hardcore session musicians, the band earned its name from their practice of wearing seatbelts while traveling through space for safety. While the lineup is fluid, it often features some of Japan’s most renowned musicians—and even includes a dog.
Their next performance is scheduled for the 22nd century.
