For my 18th birthday, my brother gave me a John Coltrane album: Crescent. Neither of us knew who he was, nor did he know why he had chosen that album for me, but I was fascinated by that sweet and rough sound at the same time. The strange and captivating moans that came out of the tenor saxophone, especially on the song Wise One, would make me decide to try playing that instrument, something I haven’t stopped doing since then.
During my years as a saxophonist, playing different musical styles such as jazz, blues, rock, pop, funk, dance music, reggae, free improvisation; in different formations such as duets, jazz trios, big bands, orchestras, street theater, children’s, musicals, events of all kinds, improvisation groups and performances; as well as experience as a soloist and session musician; local and European tours; teaching, I have never stopped searching for the deep and poignant expression of the sound that inspired me that first listening to Wise One.
