The Social Dead is an alt rock band from Wollongong, Australia. Formed from Saturday arvo jams between longtime mates Timmy (guitar), Weasel (drums), and Brashy (bass), the trio fused their love of punk, metal, grunge, and rock into something heavier and more honest. In 2020, vocalist Mar joined, bringing raw lyricism and emotional depth that shaped the band’s voice. Their debut The EP (2021) reimagined earlier songs through this new lens.
Despite lockdowns, the band kept creating, leading to Miss Me When I’m Gone (2023), a haunting single born from an old demo. That same year, Johnny (ex Born Lion) joined, adding melodic grit and helping define the band’s sound: heavy hearted but high energy.
Their second EP Couldn’t Be Better (2024) channeled 90s alt rock with bittersweet joy and emotional punch. In 2025, they return with What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Sad, a cathartic collection of songs about grief, burnout, and resilience.
Now with Mar and Johnny sharing vocals, The Social Dead deliver raw power with melodic weight. Onstage and on record, they turn quiet pain into loud, honest anthems.
