Henry Marr’s sonorous vocals that tell of life, love and pain… El Rey Uli’s Gretsch guitar that sings, growls and clatters… plus a wild portion of Rock’n’Roll on double bass and drums… Welcome to The Porthounds!
In their songs they explore the boundaries between roots rock, country and 60s rock’n’roll. Hamburg to Memphis, Detroit to Liverpool and back - this is what the Porthounds call their Northern Shuffle! Well hung, rough and unpolished, but served with virtuosity.
In the Corona year 2021, the two old friends Henry Marr and El Rey Uli sat down together in their home studio to make music despite the lockdown. Many songs with very personal lyrics quickly emerged. Musically, the two-guitar limitation brought them back to their shared love of early country and rock ’n’ roll. During the sessions it became clear that the songs needed a traditional rhythm section, and soon Joker and Matthias Friedel, two very experienced musicians, who are at home in classic rockabilly as well as jazz and swing, joined the band. With this line-up, The Porthounds recorded their debut album on their own, and “The Porthounds” was released on CD and all digital portals in July 2022. In spring 2025, the rhythm section gets replaced with Roland König on the drum set and Dres Carstensen on the bass, and the band is working together on song material for the upcoming second album.
Live On Stage: Since 2022, The Porthounds have been playing tirelessly, delighting audiences with their authentic sound and energetic performance. At sold-out concerts in Germany, among others, together with the Go-Getters, Holly Golightly, Smokestack Lightnin’ and Jake La Botz, and on a tour through England, Scotland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, they gained an ever-growing fan base.
