Starsetz is the new collab of Tomas Ortved and Cecilie Brask. Partners in love and music. Prominent personalities of the Copenhagen indie scene, Tomas being the drummer and composing member of Sort Sol, known in Scandinavia as the first punk band of Denmark, and still active. Tomas is also the drummer of Neu Sierra and a member of the trio Achtung Sky. Cecilie was the lead singer of the defunct cult dream punk duo Supernova who toured clubs and festivals in the nineties.
Starsetz are to release an album with 6 titles written and produced by Cecilie. The genre is dream pop, indie folk, with elements of jazz.
First single “Flickering Light"was released May 23rd 2025. It has an emotional spacey atmosphere with a folky melody and Cecilie’s clear vocals, a catchy saxophone riff, beautiful violins and slow-dancing drums. Lyrics about the transience of the moment, but despite the song being written against a backdrop of great sadness, it contains a hope. A Flickering Light. “Flickering Light” was well received by a local audience.
“Mochlos Night” was released June 20th. It is a jazzy dreampop song with a mood of a never ending summer. Distinct female vocals, a rich soundscape of saxophone, violin and guitar and a catchy groove of drums and percussion that makes you want to dance in the shadows. Congas was recorded in Crete, you can still hear the ocean. We finished the production in Copenhagen joined by our children Jazz saxophonist Teis Ortved and classical violinist Thera Ortved”. Mochlos Night celebrates lust for life, but the lyrics also describe how the hunger for more never stops. It is a multifaceted song - like life - both light and dark.
