Having performed in bands for years, multi-instrumentalist Simon Joan longed for new creative challenges and excitement, leading him to retreat to his Amsterdam apartment to craft songs of his own. In this reflective setting, he found himself writing music that captured his most personal stories. The result is an introspective collection of songs inspired by The Beatles, Alex Turner and The Velvet Underground, combined with the modern textures of artists like Tame Impala and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
His bedroom sound feels energetic yet dreamy, mixing vintage bass and synthesizers with boom bap drums and shimmering guitars, all brought together with lush vocal harmonies and wall-of-sound production. His songs explore themes of ambition, love and escapism, seeking to balance maturity with a youthful spirit that doesn’t take life too seriously.
Before embarking on his solo journey, Simon Joan played on some of the Netherlands’ biggest stages, including Pinkpop and the Ziggo Dome, as well as international venues, both as a member of the rock band Orange Skyline and the more mellow Mazey Haze. Now stepping out on his own, Simon aims to craft music that feels personal and heartfelt, while remaining playful and infectious.
