Despite being home to Yale University, a thriving arts scene, and arguably the best pizza in the country - New Haven is often overshadowed by its more notable neighbors: New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. It’s a city hungry for a flag bearer.
Enter showpony - New Haven’s newest rock outfit. Formed in early 2025 by solo artists Aaron Taos & Tyler Lindsay, showpony aims to bring the heart of New Haven’s dichotomy to life. With a sonic bedrock of dark, droning, distorted guitars and a top layer of Taos and Lindsay’s vocal harmony - the group personifies both the city’s grit and charm.
Taos and Lindsay were born in New Haven and despite growing up within minutes of each other, the two did not meet until their 20s. As chance would have it, Lindsay was a barber at New Haven’s Skull & Combs, a shop that Taos often frequented. The two struck up a friendship over their mutual love of musical heroes Queens Of The Stone Age, Oasis and Arctic Monkeys. However it wasn’t until years later that they decided to form a group. The two were sick of lighter pop music. They wanted something darker. Something that represented their sonic roots of growing up playing in bands. Something that was a representation of their beloved city.
That something is showpony.
