Artist: Mathias Ruppnig

Who: Mathias Ruppnig

Jazz
Following his critically acclaimed albums square and The Spinning, Austrian drummer and composer Mathias Ruppnig returns with his third studio album, FOAM – a personal and musically rich work that blends long-standing collaborations with fresh inspiration. For this project, Ruppnig brings together some of his most influential musical companions: Kurt Rosenwinkel (USA, guitar), one of the most influential jazz guitarists of our time and a long-time collaborator, shapes the sound of FOAM with his unmistakable musical voice. Their ongoing partnership includes projects such as Berlin People (Tobias Meinhart) and the Kurt Rosenwinkel Trio. Tony Tixier (France, piano and synth), with whom Ruppnig played in the band Scopes (featuring Ben van Gelder, among others), adds harmonic depth, modern textures, and emotional movement. Musina Ebobissé (France, tenor saxophone), a former bandmate in singer Ganna Gryniva’s ensemble, and Joandèr Cruz (Brazil, alto saxophone & flute), who joined directly for the recording session and impressed from the first note, bring expressive playing and melodic freedom. Lorenz Heigenhuber (Germany, double bass), whom Ruppnig met after moving to Leipzig in 2022, completes the ensemble as a trusted musical partner. Guest appearances include Matilda Abraham (Australia, vocals on Ivy) and Roland Hanslmeier (Austria, percussion on Jimbo). The result is an album full of warmth, rhythmic intricacy, and emotional depth – deeply personal in every note.
