Since releasing their album ‘dust suspended on a sunbeam’ via Blossom Rot Records in March 2025, JuliaWhy? (Julia Wylie, Kat Harley and Hollie Mathew) have had a huge year. In September, KCRW in Los Angeles featured Pale Blue Dot as Today’s Top Tune. When playing it on iconic radio show Morning Becomes Eclectic, Novena Carmel said on-air, “If you are looking to stargaze, look no further than the all-female, Sydney-based shoegaze band JuliaWhy? Fans of Cocteau Twins and Slowdive will find plenty to love in Pale Blue Dot. The song invites its listeners to turn to the stars and the beauty of the environment as a place for solace.”
In June, the shoegaze trio played to a sold-out Enmore Theatre supporting Cloud Control’s Bliss Release Anniversary Tour. A live review in The Music described JuliaWhy?s performance as, “surprisingly aggressive,” a badge Julia, Kat and Hollie wear with honour.
In August, Western Sydney rapper Bayang Tha Bushranger chose ‘dust suspended on a sunbeam’ for his Top Picks for a Post-Streaming World in SydneyMusic.Net, writing, “This feels like something you can easily show to friends overseas, and feel like you’re almost sending a postcard. It’s a snapshot of one of the many faces of this city – sweet and melancholic.”
Since then, the trio have supported Screamfeeder, Jess Ribiero, Sarah Mary Chadwick, played King Street Crawl 35’ and will close the year out by touring to Melbourne and Mullumbimby.
