Singer-songwriter Jonathan Ray’s eponymous solo project first emerged in 2018, marinating as a concept for a few years before a particularly rough breakup inspired him to write Don’t Leave Me This Way — a cathartic creative release which he went on to launch as his debut single in 2022.
Building on the groundwork laid by McCafferty, Shakey Graves, Oh Wonder and beyond with an innovative take on the traditional indie sound, Jonathan’s distinct sonic identity blends gentle acoustic phrasing with emphatic percussive punctuation — a natural background for his resonant, empathetic lyrical stylings. Equally as electric in the studio as on stage, Jonathan has since cultivated a diverse and loyal fanbase through his debut single, a 5-track acoustic demo EP released in 2023, and a string of East Coast shows stretching from New York to Orlando.
Now, keeping momentum at an all-time high, Jonathan is poised for his biggest year yet, putting the finishing touches on his first ever full-length album, while plans for a West Coast tour and a second EP are also in the works, all set to be officially announced in due time.
